The handicapped Malki Roth never complained of typical middle-child maladies. Showing remarkable maturity even at the early age of 15, Malki took care of her developmentally disabled sister, Haya. "Malki's life was filled with acts of helping others," said her mother, Frimet. While most girls spent their summers relaxing, Malki chose to work in a camp for severely handicapped children instead.  During the year, she spent much of her free time working as an advisor at a girls' youth group.  "Whenever she saw anyone who looked unhappy or had a problem, she would go over and embrace them or listen to them," said Malki's mother.
Friendly and eternally optimistic, Malki could be found playing the flute in Chorev High School's orchestra or strumming her guitar at neighborhood sing-alongs. "She could reduce me to tears any time by playing the flute," recalled her father, Arnold.  Parts of Malki's loving nature remained private until the end.  When her personal belongings were retrieved from the bombing site, Malki's family found a tiny note she had written taped to the mouthpiece of her cell phone: "Never speak badly of anyone."
Malka Chana Roth was killed in the Sbarros Pizzeria explosion on August 9, 2001.
